カジュアル衣料品店「ユニクロ」を展開するファーストリテイリングは１４日、東日本大震災の被災地に、柳井正会長兼社長が個人として１０億円の義援金を送ると発表しました。日本赤十字社などを通じ、宮城、岩手、福島、青森、茨城の各県に寄付されるそうです。グループ各社や従業員から募った４億円と合わせ、同社グループとしての義援金は計１４億円になりました。

　また、ユニクロの主力商品で防寒にも役立つ保温性の高い機能性下着「ヒートテック」３０万点のほかタオル、ジーンズなど計７億円相当の商品も寄付する予定です。同社によると柳井氏は「過去に例のない災害の被災地を支援したい」とのことです。

Retail billionaire Tadashi Yanai, founder and president of Uniqlo's parent company Fast Retailing, will donate 1 billion yen ($12.2 million) of his personal fortune towards relief efforts in northeastern Japan. An additional 400 million yen ($4.9 million) will come from the company coffers, according to a statement released to Japan's Nikkei stock exchange. The money will fund relief efforts being conducted by a number of aid groups, including the Japanese Red Cross.

A total of 17 ATP World Tour players took part in the 40-minute exhibition match against the NASL's Forth Lauderdale Strikers at Miami's Ranson Everglades School. The Strikers prevailed, 4-2.

ベルリン・フィルでは、東北関東大地震のニュースを大きな衝撃をもって受け止めております。震災後の状況を受けて、オーケストラと指揮者のベルナルド・ハイティンクは、3月18日の演奏会を日本の皆様に捧げることにいたしました。この模様は、デジタル・コンサートホールでも中継されます。

コンサートでは、予定されていたウェーベルン《夏の風のなかで》の代りに、ルトスワフスキ「弦楽のための哀悼曲」が演奏されます。その他のプログラムは、これまでに発表されていたものと同様です。ルトスワフスキ「交響曲第４番」の後、レイフ・オヴェ・アンスネスの独奏で、ブラームス「ピアノ協奏曲第２番」が上演されます。

ヘルベルト・フォン・カラヤンとの初来日（1957年）以来、ベルリン・フィルは日本の聴衆と深いつながりを持ってきました。楽団全体のツアーと、室内アンサンブル公演との両方で、数限りなく客演を重ねています。音楽的な交流も盛んであり、この２月には、細川俊夫のホルン協奏曲が、当団で世界初演されました。また来る５月には、佐渡裕が初めて我々の指揮台に立つことになっています。オーケストラには、第１コンサートマスターの樫本大進をはじめ、日本人奏者も数名所属しています。

The Berliner Philharmoniker have followed the catastrophe in Japan resulting from the recent earthquake with great concern. As an expression of their sympathy, the orchestra and their conductor Bernard Haitink are dedicating the broadcast of their concert on Friday, 18 March to the Japanese people.

At the beginning of the concert, Martin Hoffmann, General Manager of the Foundation Berliner Philharmoniker, will make a short speech. The orchestra will then play Witold Lutosławskis Funeral Music for string orchestra in place of the originally planned Im Sommerwind by Anton Webern. The rest of the programme remains unchanged:  Lutosławskis Fourth Symphony will be followed by Johannes Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2 with Leif Ove Andsnes as soloist.

Ever since their first concert tour with Herbert von Karajan in 1957, the Berliner Philharmoniker and Japanese audiences have had very close ties. Numerous tours by the orchestra and its chamber music ensembles have strengthened this connection. The Berliner Philharmoniker also have a long tradition of working with Japanese musicians. This season, the orchestra gave the premiere of the horn concerto by Toshio Hosokawa in February, and the conductor Yutaka Sado makes his Philharmonic debut in May. Several members of the Berliner Philharmoniker also come from Japan, including the concertmaster Daishin Kashimoto.

A 8.9 magnitude earthquake slammed Japan's northeastern coast, unleashing a 33- foot tsunami on March 11.
